After a break of almost three years the Amsterdam based FIBER festival returns on May 15 & 16 with a packed programme of audiovisual art, immersive performances, electronic music, workshops and a symposium. This edition is focused on the theme The Subterranean: Exploring Networked Tools and Matter and questions the often invisible influence of digital technology on our daily lives. FIBER festival takes place at two cultural hotspots A Lab (symposium, meetup, exhibition) and club Radion (performances & club night) in Amsterdam.

With this year’s theme The Subterranean: Exploring Networked Tools and Matter, FIBER investigates the use of digital tools to create and at the same time navigate and excavate networked landscapes.

The festival will be a subterranean journey that offers a peek into the networked and ‘smart’ landscapes that have emerged from a worldwide explosion of digital technology. This edition focuses on the following questions: What is the influence of this often invisible technological layer fusing with our daily lives? Which worlds, processes and entities lay hidden behind the surface of our computer screens? And how can we, users of digital instruments, influence these structures and processes to make them controllable for us - instead of the other way around?

During the two days of FIBER Festival, answers to these questions can be found while being sucked into immersive installations, participating in workshops or while getting lost in audiovisual performances, DJ & live sets. For those who seek to dive deeper into the subject, there will be a symposium with keynotes, artist talks and panels and a meetup between artist, designers, coders, theorists and a dedicated crowd from the Netherlands and abroad.

FIBER now presents the first festival names, locations and tickets. These first names are of participants within the day programme (exhibition, symposium, meetup) at A Lab. The performance and club line-up at Radion will be announced soon.

About FIBER

FIBER is an Amsterdam based interdisciplinary organisation, that presents new developments in audiovisual art, digital culture and the experimental and deeper corners of electronic music. The team works year round with a vibrant network of artists, designers, researchers and developers, who aspire to introduce mind bending experiences to a broad audience. Special attention goes out to the support of up and coming talents across numerous creative disciplines.

Next to small-scale events and exhibitions, the team organises the recurring FIBER Festival in Amsterdam, which brings together a diverse crowd of new talent, established artists and curious visitors. FIBER aims to explore hybrid forms of art, the power of media- and network technology, and encourages an exchange of views between the makers and their audience.
